We left Tampa International Airport on Saturday morning aboard JetBlue to JFK and New York City. Four days and three nights in the BIG APPLE!
A tour guide and bus met us at the airport and took us to our hotel in midtown. Our room was not ready so we took off on foot to explore the neighborhood. I took this picture of the intersection so we would remember where our hotel was!
Two blocks up and our first stop was Central Park! Horse and carriages, blooming trees, kids, bicycles, and dogs, and long rows of green park benches!
Central Park East - luxury apartments and office buildings just across the street. Some of the older building had roof top gardens.
A short stroll down 5th Avenue and we came across St. Patrick's Cathedral. Newly remodeled and looking clean and bright.
Around the corner and we found this: Rockefeller Center. The famous ice rink is an outdoor cafe in warm weather months.
A little farther down the street was Radio City Music Hall. The crowds were lining up for a Saturday matinee.
Next we passed the Gershwin Theater where WICKED was playing ...
And we found the Ed Sullivan Theater where The Late Show is filmed. We were back at our hotel and where able to check into our room.
Our view from the 33rd floor. So exciting to see lots of midtown and Central Park from our room.
Another view. Central Park is just beyond building line. After a light dinner in a charming neighborhood French restaurant, we caught a cab to The Empire State Building. Had reserve tickets, so didn't have to stand in line. Went right to the top!
View from the top!
Looking up to see the lighted radio tower.
View from the other side. The wind was brisk and lots of people around so we stayed only about 15 minutes. In the gift shop I bought a Christmas ornament of Santa climbing the building.
We ended our first evening at The Algonquin Hotel enjoying their cocktails named after famous people. I ordered the Mary Pickford. Very delicious!
